Disclaimer: You May Find a Broken Link

So, there USED to be freenapster.com, and it USED to provide access to almost any artist's music. It was pretty awesome, and I linked ~90% of this blog's recommendations to that site. Now, apparently, Free Napster is no more. Booooooo.

It will be a long, on-going task of mine to redirect the links to somewhere you can hear the music, but in the meantime, if you click on a link that brings you to Napster where it asks you to sign in:
1) Be angry at them, for disrupting your chance to enjoy a good song
2) Google the song and still check it out, because it's awesome

If you have another source I should be using, please don't hesitate to send it my way. Email me for that, and any music recommendations, at tracy@groundwm.com. Thanks!

New Wolf Parade Tunes!

I've posted my love for Wolf Parade's "You are a Runner, but I am my Father's Son" and "Call it a Ritual," so I was pretty excited to see some new tracks from their upcoming album Expo 86 posted today. Definitely a fan on first listen, and I have the intention of playing through them a few more times yet today. Have a listen yourself below.

New LCD Soundsystem Album Streaming

LCD Soundsystem has a new, and likely final, album called This is my Happening being released on May 17 (EU) and May 18 (US). Apparently, LCD threw a secret show in NY a few days ago where he gave out this new album and asked the crowd not to leak it before the official release. I think there were a few hours before it was found online, so LCD Soundsystem decided to pull an MGMT and stream it themselves (only MGMT's player allows you to select the song you want to hear, where LCD's player starts on song one and plays through, with only play and pause controls available).

As soon as I saw it available yesterday on twitter I did two things: I retweeted it, and I listened. I actually listened for several consecutive hours, and determined myself to be a fan of the new album. It seemed to me that the more I listened to it, the more I liked it. I definitely feel like the whole album as a single piece of artwork has an identifiable sound. Listen for yourself HERE, and then check out all of LCD Soundsystem's upcoming shows, including at Chicago's Metro and Pitchfork.

My Pitchfork Thoughts

Well, I had a FABulous time at P4K 2009. :) Like the rest of my postings, I'm going to keep this review brief!

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Yeasayer - They were on my list of "must sees" and I had pretty high expectations for them, and yet they still blew me away. (Dancing in the rain to Yeasayer = favorite Pitchfork moment of 09) Way to be really awesome Yeasayer and turn an existing fan into a exciting fan. :)
  • Final Fantasy- I love a good one-man band, and what Owen Pallett did to that violin was inspiring.

BIGGEST DISSAPOINTMENT
  • The Walkmen - Not only are they "above" playing the song that made them famous, but their set was blah overall. So sad.

HAPPY MOMENTS
  • Seeing that Whole Foods had gigantic bags of cherries available for sale as a healthy snack. Those were delicious and refreshing.
  • Perusing the poster artists - found a few promising designers.
  • Randomly running into folks from Moxie Motive, Loyal Divide, Verona Red and Bully in the Hallway.
  • Making the most awesome picture buttons ever. :)
  • Pretty much every moment, as music festivals are my heaven-on-earth.

SAD MOMENTS
  • Realizing that the crazy, colliding fans I burried myself in for Matt & Kim actually squished all the ripe and juicy cherries in my purse, getting cherry juice on my purse, my pants, my sweater, my hand, my boyfriend, my phone, etc.
  • Losing one of the most awesome picture buttons ever. :(
  • Watching some drunk loser cut off some handicap guy waiting to use the handicap porta-potty. All the folks in my porta-potty line gave him the stink eye when he got out. Loser.

Check out some more images from my 2009 P4K experience

3/25/09: Tunnelvision, by Here We Go Magic

How very Radiohead of them... In a good way, of course! They're touring with Grizzly Bear in June, so check to see if they're coming to a venue near you. They're not stopping in Chicago, most likely due to Grizzly Bear's July performance at Pitchfork's music festival. SO excited for that!

Enjoy!

Recommended Song of the Day

2/5/09: Summertime Clothes, by Animal Collective

Where to begin... I saw Animal Collective at Pitchfork last summer and was awestruck. Completely surprised by the wonderfulness they seeped into my ears. I'm bummed I missed them in Chicago last month at the Metro. :(

I heard so many good things about their new album, Merriweather Post Pavilion, and all of it is true. Big fan of the album, but like many of my favorite artists who I've yet to bring to the blog, I couldn't decide which song to post! Well, life kept happening and they slipped my
mind, until just now on the way home. Props to XRT for bringing them back to the forefront of my attention.

Not recognizing that the song on the radio was Animal Collective's Summertime Clothes, I anxiously started googling the lyrics as I heard them on my phone. I contemplated rolling down the window and asking passerbys if they knew. Alas, XRT told me, and I nearly knocked myself unconscious with the "duh" slap of the forehead.

Enjoy!
